Did you know that the sunrises and sunsets on Mars are blue?

The scattering is produced by fine dust in the planet’s thin atmosphere. Also relevant, the disk of the sun is smaller, visually, than on Earth. Images like these reflect, more or less, the actual views of the sunset, as taken by Martian rovers.

And looking at them like? It kinda makes me sad. ‘Cause I know irl any mission to Mars in my lifetime is likely to be a doomed corporate venture. But still. I would like to see a blue sunrise.

Like! Those are real places! That’s just…a place. You could stand on that ridge, on that rusting rock, if you had a enough protection, and you could watch that with your own two eyes. How am I supposed to be chill that I can’t do that?

Snails in the genus Julia have a bivalved shell, like a clam!

Even though they have a clam like shell, with 2 sections, they are in fact snails (class Gastropoda). They are marine snails, found throughout the Ino-Pacific. There are 6 species which are various shades of green. Julia are tiny, only reaching a length of up to 6 mm long. They feed on algae, and incorporate the chloroplasts from the algae into their bodies. Some of the chloroplasts remain photosynthetic, and the snails are able to feed on the products of this photosynthesis. This process is called kleptoplasty.

This is…. Absurdly cute. What the fuck.

It’s worth noting that the reason the beaver wants the water to be deeper in the first place is that the Beaver is using the deep water as a pantry:

image

All summer and fall, beavers gather up branches with the leaves they actually eat, and store it in the deep end of the Pond, where the cold water and limited oxygen keep the leaves fresh all winter, so when it’s negative 20 outside, a beaver can take a dip out of it’s lodge, grab some refrigerated leaves in the (relatively) warmer water and go back to it’s cozy little nap hole while everything else is out there suffering and eating bark or the like.

So it’s less “there’s a leak in my house” and more “OH SHIT THE FRIDGE!!”

As a Jewish person I ask- where is religious freedom for non-Christians in this new post-Roe era? Judaism tells us that our bodies are sacred and that life begins at birth. It tells us that a person should choose their own life when a pregnancy is endangering them. Some of us even believe that in life-endangering circumstances, abortion is mandatory in order to save the parent’s life. About 83% of American Jews support abortion being legal in all/most cases, more than any other religious group. Judaism tells us that we need to do everything we can in order to preserve our own lives.

Where’s OUR religious freedom? Does the US Supreme Court truly value religious freedom, or just Christian freedom?
